Cosmetic Tattoo Aftercare
Immediately following cosmetic procedure
Proper aftercare following your procedure is necessary to achieve the best results. Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of color is to be expected. This is the purpose of the touch-up visit. Please review the following directions and refer to them as necessary. If during your healing process you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (203) 924-2451.
Apply a cold pack to the treatment area. Wrap an ice pack in a washcloth and apply to the treatment area for 10 to 30 minutes and as necessary until swelling is reduced.
Clean the treatment area before applying ointment. Wash hands prior to cleaning the area. Use a moistened cotton tipped swab to gently clean eye area. Use an anti-biotic soap to wash eyebrows or lips. Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub treatment area. Do not use wash cloths.
Apply aftercare cream given to you lightly as instructed. Do not gob it on. Do not touch the procedure area with dirty hands. Use a cotton tipped applicator to apply the ointment not your fingertips.
Sleeping slightly elevated will help alleviate swelling. Place a new, clean pillow case on your pillow as there may be some spot bleeding and release of excess pigment.
Some itching is normal during healing. Do not pick, peel or scratch the treatment area. Doing so will increase the chance of scarring, infection and loss of color. Allow area to flake naturally.
Do not apply makeup to the treatment area for at least 72 hours. Use new mascara if applying to new eyeliner. Do not use eyelash curlers or false lashes for two weeks.
Refrain from electrolysis for at least 2 weeks following an eyebrow procedure. Eyebrows are always darker immediately after the procedure. Within one week, the color becomes much softer.
Avoid direct sun during healing. Avoid tanning booths and beds. Wear sunglasses when in the sun in order to protect eyeliner for the first two weeks.
Avoid prolonged soaking in water, hot tubs, saunas, direct shower spray and hot water. Do not swim in fresh, salt or chlorinated water. Do not use skin creams, ointments or lotions, other than what you were instructed to use, for two weeks. Do not use peroxide or alcohol.
For lip treatments, keep lips moisturized at all times. Avoid spicy, salty or hot foods. If using herpes medication, continue as prescribed.
Be careful when brushing your teeth, as toothpaste will pull out pigment.
Long-term care
Use a good sun screen daily even lips require protection. Sun exposure will fade your cosmetic tattoo and may cause irritation, even years later.
If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical facial procedure, please inform your physician and your cosmetic tattoo technician.
Remember that colors appear brighter and more clearly defined immediately after the procedure. As healing progresses, colors will soften. A touch-up session may or may not be required. Final results can not be determined until after healing is completed. Touch-up procedures need to be made 30 to 60 days following final procedure.
